What does it do?

Netflix is a global digital entertainment service and is a principal driver of the shift from linear TV consumption to on-demand streaming.

Why do we invest?

Founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph, Netflix has become the first truly global content and distribution media brand. The company benefits from a powerful combination of low monthly subscription costs, a stream of fresh and high-quality content and a near-frictionless and tailored customer experience.

As well as streaming third-party content, Netflix is also increasing its content creation offering. It has produced incredibly popular original series across a range of genres, such as Stranger ThingsThe Crown and Squid Game, putting it up there with HBO and Disney.

The platform has seen rapid growth in launching foreign language titles and made significant investments in international markets. Hastings is keen to emphasise that there are very few international media brands which is the opportunity for Netflix.

Who is key?

Co-founder Reed Hastings has taken Netflix from a mail-order DVD company to the global entertainment giant it is today. Hastings admits he had no idea what Netflix could become when he started it but has undoubtedly created a unique company culture built to last.
